Portulaca flowers grow well in loose soil. They also thrive in full sunny conditions . The soil should be left to dry completely in between watering. Adding a high phosphorous fertilizer also helps with growth. After the plants bloom, the dead heads should be pinched off. This promotes new growth. Since the plant is prone to harmful insects and fungi, insecticides and fungicides should be used as needed.
