Sow seeds from September to October or start indoors 6-8 weeks before. Avoid warm propagation temperatures, as they will produce week plants. Keep the plants covered with soil, as light inhibits germination. It is widely cultivated and can be grown easily in sunny locations in most kinds of soils. It typically grows 12 to 24 inches tall with a 12 to 24 inch spread. Fertilize calendula with an organic plant food monthly to encourage blooms. Calendula is a great selection for beds, borders, rock gardens, edgings or as mass plantings. Young plants may be pinched back to encourage compact bushy growth. Deadhead spent flowers to promote additional bloom.
